SIERRA LEONE

WORLD LIGHT AFRICA PROJECT IN SIERRA LEONE

The Sierra Leone project is a 100kW solar system plus a 36kW power/200kWh energy LFP battery system that was fabricated in Nairobi, Kenya where most of the items were purchased, a model built, and then all components shipped to Banta in Sierra Leone in July 2023.  The system was installed,  commissioned, and tested by the WLA team in October/November 2023.

The requirement was for an energy system that would provide 24 hour a day power for Children of the Nations (COTN) Sierra Leone campus’s administration block, guest houses, primary and secondary school of 1,200 students, children’s homes, and staff housing. The WLA system provides for all needs including lights, computers, water pumping, refrigerators, refrigerated air conditioners, welders, and other devices. The campus is completely off grid and their only source of energy was provided by a diesel generator, which is very expensive to run.
